re: revisiting home, as an adult.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take some time off the road and return to Illinois, where I grew up and where my parents still live. My family travels for my husband’s work (more on that later) so it is a gift to be able to “pull over” every once in a while and park at one of my parents’ houses. We have a unique and delicate type of work/life/fam balance on the road and it all chills out a bit once we have grandparents around. My daughter (now 3) is lucky to have 3 doting grandparents in one city: my mom, my dad and my dad’s wife, my stepmother. She gets read to, is given snacks, is taken to the playground, at her whim. Not to mention gardening, playing with a big dog, going to a step-cousin’s track meets and “Great Old Grandmother”‘s nursing home, all exotic activities to a city…
